Delight in these beautiful and delicious Puff Pastry Apple Roses, featuring thinly sliced cinnamon-sugar apples wrapped in flaky puff pastry and baked to golden perfection. Perfect as an elegant dessert or a charming treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Pastry and Apples

  • 1 box (2 sheets) Pepperidge Farms puff pastry sheets
  • 3 red apples (Fuji recommended)
  • ½ lemon, juiced

Sugar and Spice

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder

Butter

  • 4 tbsp butter (divided)

Optional

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare muffin tray: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a muffin tray thoroughly with nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare apples: Wash the apples, cut them in half lengthwise, and carefully remove the core. Then slice the apples thinly across their width, laying the slices with the cut side down for even slices.
  3. Toss apples with lemon and seasoning: Place the apple slices in a bowl, squeeze the juice from half a lemon over them to prevent browning. Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of sugar and a small pinch of cinnamon and stir gently to coat all slices evenly. Set the remaining sugar and cinnamon mixture aside.
  4. Butter and season puff pastry: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and brush one side of each puff pastry sheet with it. Then combine the remaining sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered side.
  5. Cut puff pastry strips: Cut each sheet of puff pastry into six equal strips, resulting in 12 strips total.
  6. Assemble apple roses: Lay a few thin apple slices along the top half of each puff pastry strip, slightly overlapping them. Fold the bottom half of the pastry strip over the apple slices to encase them securely.
  7. Roll and place in tray: Carefully roll each pastry strip with the apples into a rose shape and place it into the prepared muffin tray. Repeat until all 12 roses are formed.
  8. Bake: Bake the apple roses for 30 minutes at 350°F, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow the apple roses to cool in the muffin tray for 10 minutes before removing. Optionally dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Fuji or Gala for better slicing and holding shape.
  • Make sure apple slices are thin to allow them to bend easily when rolled.
  • Chilling the puff pastry slightly before cutting makes it easier to handle.
  • Brush additional melted butter on the roses halfway through baking for a richer crust.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a tasty dessert.
