Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos combine tender teriyaki-marinated chicken with a fresh coleslaw mix, all served in golden, crispy wonton wrappers and topped with sweet chili sauce, sesame seeds, and cilantro for a deliciously crunchy and flavorful appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

Coleslaw

  • 2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage and carrots)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil

Wonton Tacos

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • Additional oil for frying wontons (about 1/4 cup)

Instructions

  1. Marinate Chicken: In a bowl, combine the sliced chicken breasts with teriyaki sauce, 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Mix well and let it marinate for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the marinated chicken until fully cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking and browning.
  3. Prepare Coleslaw: In another bowl, toss together the coleslaw mix, thinly sliced green onions, rice vinegar, honey, and the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix until well combined and set aside.
  4. Fry Wonton Wrappers: Heat enough oil in a skillet to shallow fry the wonton wrappers. Fry each wonton wrapper lightly for 20 to 30 seconds on each side until they turn golden and crispy. Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Place a portion of cooked chicken onto each crispy wonton wrapper, add some of the prepared coleslaw on top, then drizzle with sweet chili sauce.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped cilantro over the assembled tacos for added flavor and presentation. Serve immediately while crispy.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add a dash of sriracha or chili flakes to the coleslaw or sweet chili sauce.
  • You can substitute chicken with tofu or shrimp for a variation.
  • Use a thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F for food safety.
  • If preferred, wonton wrappers can be baked at 375°F for 5-7 minutes to achieve crispiness instead of frying.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content.
