Ingredients

Breadcrumb Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Dip Ingredients

  • 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained well
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare Onions: Chop up the 16 ounce jar of cocktail onions, drained well, into smaller bite-size pieces. Set aside.
  2. Toast Breadcrumbs: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter. Once melted, add 1 cup panko breadcrumbs, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Stir continuously until the breadcrumbs are golden brown. Remove the breadcrumbs from the skillet to a bowl.
  3. Mix Dip Ingredients: Transfer half of the toasted breadcrumbs to a large mixing bowl. Add the 8 ounce block cream cheese (softened), 1 cup sour cream, ½ cup mayonnaise, 2 Tablespoons ketchup, 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon horseradish, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon oregano, ½ teaspoon black pepper, ¼ teaspoon salt, ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional), 1 teaspoon dried parsley, and the chopped cocktail onions.
  4. Combine Dip: Use a hand mixer to thoroughly combine all the dip ingredients until smooth and well-blended.
  5. Chill and Serve: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Just before serving, top the dip with the remaining toasted breadcrumbs and a sprinkle of extra dried parsley. Then enjoy!

Notes

  • For best texture, ensure the cream cheese is softened before mixing.
  • The cayenne pepper is optional and adds a mild spicy kick; omit for a milder flavor.
  • To make ahead, prepare the dip without the final breadcrumb topping and refrigerate. Add breadcrumbs just before serving to maintain crunch.
  • Panko breadcrumbs provide a lighter, crispier topping than regular breadcrumbs.
  • For a lower-fat option, substitute light sour cream and mayonnaise.
